Description
The Swift collections features the Swift in different forms. This series of ‘Corsage bracelets’ are made with just the Swift’s head combined with an antique or vintage diamante piece of jewellery set on a vintage watch strap.
I have named them corsage bracelets as they remind me of the little bouquets of flowers which were often worn on the wrist. Wearing flowers pinned to clothing dates as far back as Ancient Greece, when small bunches of fragrant flowers and herbs were worn at weddings to ward off evil spirits. During the 16th and 17th centuries, corsages and boutonnières may have been a part of daily life to prevent disease and to ward off evil spirits, but over time, they became special-occasion pieces.
This bronze Swift head has been embellished with Platinum leaf and paired with an 1960’s diamante brooch, which I have cold fixed to a vintage digital ladies gold tone watch strap.
Lost wax cast in solid bronze, each swift head one is individually crafted in wax before being transformed in to bronze. They are polished to finish and are very tactile.
Due to the very nature of the processes involved and the use of antique pieces, each bracelet is satisfyingly unique and one off.
One of the reasons that I love reusing watch straps is their versatility in resizing. This one measures at around 17cm and is considered to be a smaller size, however it has the ability to have x4 links taken out shortening the bracelet to about 15cm.
It all depends how you like to wear your bracelets and bangles, sometimes I like to style mine over a shirt or jumper, that way they stay tight on my arm. They are perfect gifts for a special occasion or statement piece for an outfit.
